New High Speed Train Connects Orlando to Miami & South Florida

The first-ever high speed train line from Orlando to Miami and South Florida is opening this Friday, 22 September. The service has been brought to life by Brightline, an inter-city rail route between Miami and West Palm Beach.

Brightline aims to reinvent train travel by providing easy, efficient, and eco-friendly routes between some of the country’s best cities. Existing stations include Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach, comprising more than 27 acres of office, retail, residential and commercial space.

Located within Orlando International Airport (MCO), the new Orlando station is part of the Phase 2 expansion into Central Florida, which also includes a Tampa extension. From Friday, those travelling from Orlando via high speed train will be able to reach West Palm Beach in around two hours and Miami in around three and a half hours.

In recent years, South Florida has seen an influx of new residents from across the country and overseas. Brightline Florida not only helps meet the growing demand for travel, but increases the desirability of Central and South Florida as a place to live, work and invest. By connecting these two fast-growing regions, the new rail route opens up new opportunities across business, tourism, and leisure.

Buddy Dyer, Orlando Mayor, said:

This new higher-speed rail service will serve as an important connector between South and Central Florida as we continue to expand our transit options and work to ensure reliable transportation is available for everyone who wants to live, work or visit Orlando.

Brightline will operate 16 round trips a day between Orlando and South Florida. One-way SMART tickets start at $79 for adults and $39 for kids, with groups of 4 – 29 saving 25% on fares. Travellers can upgrade with PREMIUM fares, which start at $149 one way, and include priority seating, complimentary snacks & drinks, a first checked bag, and access to an exclusive lounge area.

A Bit More About Brightline

Brightline is the only privately owned and operated intercity railroad in the US. The company is working to reinvent train travel through high speed connections and eco-friendly technology. Its diesel-electric locomotives run on clean biodiesel for lower emissions and help to remove 3 million cars from roads each year. The use of solar power across Brightline stations also helps to reduce the company’s carbon footprint.

Brightline has created more than 12,000 job opportunities in Florida and will contribute an impressive $6.4 Billion to the state’s economy over the next 8 years.

A further rail line is also being developed—Brightline West—which is set to connect Las Vegas and Southern California by the 2028 LA Olympics. Fully electric, emission-free trains—the greenest in America—will traverse the 218-mile high speed line.

Once all routes are up and running, the company expects to transport 8 million passengers annually.

As Central and South Florida experiences a welcome boost in tourism and economic activity, new opportunities are emerging for savvy investors looking to capitalise on the success of the Sunshine State.
